Canvas Cybersecurity Virtual Forum
Following the recent Canvas cybersecurity incident impacting many New Mexico educational institutions, NMPSIA members were invited to participate in a virtual forum on Wednesday, May 27, at 10 AM MST.
The forum was hosted in partnership with the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority and Poms and Associates, featuring Beazley Insurance Company and Data Privacy law firm Baker Hostetler.
This forum provided an overview of the following areas:
- The status of the incident, including updates and information received to date from Instructure and incident response partners.
- Next steps educational institutions should consider when coordinating with Instructure regarding this incident.
- Potential impacts on educational institutions, including considerations related to personally identifiable information (PII), operational disruption, and notification obligations.
Additionally, NMPSIA members had the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with experts regarding this incident and its potential impact on their organizations.
This virtual forum informed educational leaders, technology teams, business managers, and administrative staff in understanding the evolving situation and preparing appropriate recovery actions.
